Dedalus in Motion

If you’re going to re-make a great movie, you can’t mock it.  That predecessor, after all, is paying your bills at the end of the day because you can’t come up with an original idea yourself...  So when Perseus pulls the golden owl out of a box of weapons, asks “What’s this?,” and another character quips “It’s junk,” my feathers were bristled.

Despite this, Clash of the Titans is slightly better than the piece of crap you might expect.  They take some unnecessary liberties with the story that lose the owl and make Calibos a lot less interesting, but creates a new character (Io, portrayed by a stunning Gemma Arterton) who steals the film.

The effects aren’t what they should have been.  Medusa, 100% computer generated, looks ridiculous.  Perhaps they were going for the claymation / stop-motion look that dates the 1981 version, but it doesn’t seem an intentional goof.  My guess is they spent their whole effects budget animating the Kraaken.  Save your money here, and rent the original instead.
