Dedalus in Motion
I was pretty excited to see this film. I think Michelle Williams is a strong actress, and hasn’t really been cast in a role that fully showcased her ability to date. And I love these films that look and feel like they were made on a $250,000 budget...
Wendy & Lucy is super-simple (no spoilers here). Girl has nothing but dog. Girl loves dog. Girl loses dog. Sky falls. It’s well-edited (rare, these days) to a short and sweet 70 minute run-time, and its making is very unpretentious.
There are some harrowing moments of beautifully-done tension, and a real sense of urgency throughout the film. And Michelle Williams, as expected, kicks ass and really carries the film. Unfortunately, very little is learned make Wendy as sympathetic as she should have been - and the film watches very slow as a result.
