Dedalus in Motion

Push watches like its screenwriter was responding to a call for “high-concept action films that can be set in Asia.”  It seems the producers didn’t realize they were getting a bad revision of a script formerly entitled “X-Men 4: Brett Ratner ruins another one.”

I was 90% sure, going in, that it would be bad - but couldn’t resist Dakota Fanning, who’s turning out to be a real powerhouse of an actor.  My suspicions were confirmed, despite Fanning’s usual charming presence.

In this world, Movers (Jean Grey of X-Men), Seers (Professor X), Bleeders (Banshee) and Shifters (Gambit meets Nightcrawler) are mutants who possess special powers.  In case subtlety/intelligence isn’t your bag, Fanning explains it all for you in a painful voiceover in the first few minutes of film (think the opening of the tragically-adapted Golden Compass).

It’s all downhill from there, with a plot so full of holes that the audience I was sitting in was literally laughing out loud at the ridiculous oversights by the third act.

Don’t waste your money.  Even the effects aren’t that cool...
