Dedalus in Motion

Some moody sounds for a gray day...

Dario Marianelli (born May 25, 1963 in Pisa, Italy) is an excellent composer best known for his scores to film. Most notable amongst those are V for Vendetta, Pride & Prejudice and Atonement. He received an Oscar nomination for Pride & Prejudice and won both the Oscar and Golden Globe for his score to Atonement.

Today's Friday Music - the score from Atonement. Marianelli's use of the typewriter as a percussive instrument is both symbolic and beautifully composed.  Sheer genius!

For more of Marianelli's work:

- Invest in the score to Pride & Prejudice, which is every bit as genius (if not moreso) than Atonement. It *drips* romance!

- Check out the upcoming film The Soloist - starring Robert Downey, Jr & Jamie Foxx, and directed by Joe Wright (who Marianelli works with frequently). It's scheduled for release March 13th.
